Science 8:  We reviewed eye anatomy first, then we made a placemat titled "Applications of Optical Devices". We read pages 216 - 223 and we made brief notes on each of 5 devices: Microscope, Telescope X2, Camera, and Binoculars.  For each we made a simple sketch, showed all the lenses, mirrors, and prisms, a single light path, and the observer's eye.  In the second half of today's class we completed Lab 6-2 (Sheep's Eye Dissections) including all the analysis questions and concluding questions.  Both the placemat and lab are due on Friday.    Click here to see the Science 8 Assignment Log

Chemistry 11: We started with a minireview of Polar and Non-polar compounds (we put this on the bottom of the Unit 9 # 9-16 assignment)  Next we learned how to find the concentration of each ion in solutions of ionic compounds.  We progressed with our Dead Sea lab, where we are tasked with finding the concentration of salt in Dead Sea water.  We finished by completing a mini lab where we performed precipitation reactions and wrote 3 equations (formula, full ionic, complete ionic) for each one.  Due next class is Unit 9 # 9-16, the Concentration of Ions WS, and the Precipitation Reactions WS are due for Friday.    Click here to see the Chemistry 11 Assignment Log.

Science 8:  After reviewing the anatomy of the human eye we watched "How its Made Laser Eye Surgery". We completed Lab 6-2 from our textbook, then we tried another quiz on the eye anatomy and marked it before class was over.  Click here to see the Science 8 Assignment Log

Chemistry 11: The WS titled "Review of Molar Concentration" was collected and marked today.  We read section 9.3 after writing brief notes on Intermolecular bonding.  Due next class is Unit 9 # 9-16.    Click here to see the Chemistry 11 Assignment Log.

Monday, December 8th

Science 8:  After reviewing the anatomy of the human eye we self marked page 205 # 1-5.  We learned about vision problems in humans, then read pages 208 - 210.  Page 210 # 1-7 are due for next class.  We finished off with a quiz on Human Eye Anatomy.  Click here to see the Science 8 Assignment Log

Chemistry 11:   We read sections 9.1 and 9.2 to learn about solutions and conductivity.  The WS titled "Review of Molar Concentration" was completed and is due for Tuesday.  We made a mini Dead Sea as well, and later we will determine the concentration of the very salty water above the solid.  Click here to see the Chemistry 11 Assignment Log.

Science 8:  We wrote some brief notes on our Lab 5-8, then we reviewed human eye anatomy.   This clip was helpful in learning about the structure of the eye and how it works.  We read pages 205 to 206, then completed page 205 # 1-5 which is due Friday.  In the final minutes we accomplished some work by viewing our workspace through a mirror - tricky!  We also added ocean and continent names to a world map.    Click here to see the Science 8 Assignment Log

Chemistry 11: After going through the geometry names and angles of some molecules on Lab 12B, we spent time finishing Unit 8 # 53 - 67 and 68-72.  Both are due on Monday.  In the second half we took brief notes on solutions and did not get to start the Molar Concentration Review WS.  Click here to see the Chemistry 11 Assignment Log.

Chemistry 11:  We drew structural diagrams for all our Lewis Dot Diagrams from Monday, then we read about Covalent Bonding (page 176-179) and completed Unit 8 # 68-72( Due Friday).  Lab 12B (only procedure steps 1,2,4) was finished next, and then wrote brief notes on Ionic Bonding.  We read page 170-176, and started Unit 8 # 53-67 but this is not due on Friday.

Science 8:  Page 189 # 1-9 was marked before it was handed in.   This short clip shows how large, accurate concave mirrors are constructed to make large telescopes.  We used convex lenses to cast an image of Dr. Dufensmirtch onto a screen, and found the image to be upright, small, and real.  With our partner we measured the focal length of the lens.  We read pages 190 to 193 and completed page 197 # 1-10 (in sentences).  In the second half we completed the procedure for Lab 5-8, then we labelled a human eye anatomy diagram.

Science 8:  Lab 5-2 was handed back today, then we added brief notes onto our ray diagram for Convex and Concave mirrors. We used small concave mirrors to cast an image of Crusty the Clown onto a screen, and we measured the focal length of the mirror.  We read pages 182 to 186, then we completed page 198 # 1-9 in sentences where appropriate.  This is due Wednesday at the start of class.   Click here to see the Science 8 Assignment Log

Science 8:  We did a mini-review on Lab 5-2, then we handed it in.  We drew ray diagrams to show how images in plane mirrors are upright, the same size as the object, and virtual.  On the backside of our plane mirror diagram we drew ray diagrams for Lab 5-7;  no lab report is needed for this.  Lab 5-7 helped us explore convex and concave mirrors.  Click here to see the Science 8 Assignment Log

Chemistry 11: We added notes to the graph of atomic radius vs atomic number, to explain reasons for the trends we were seeing.  We then wrote brief notes on Covalent Compounds, and created a DIY WS to allow us to practice Lewis Dot Diagrams containing single, double, and triple bonds.   This is due on the double block since tomorrow is a Career Day.  Click here to see the Chemistry 11 Assignment Log.
