Chemistry 12: Today I checked Unit 2 # 15 # 16.  We did lab 19B but this is not due.  We took notes on LeChatelier's principle and read pg 50-54.  Unit 2 # 17-25 (odd numbers only) is due on Friday.

Chemistry 11:  Today I collected Unit 5 # 6-9 (any 22 problems).  We took notes on the Molar Volume of a Gas at STP, and did Unit 5 # 11,12,16,17.  We did most of the procedure of lab 2B, Moles of Copper and Iron, but this is not due Friday.  While we waited for the Copper-Iron Exchange we did a practice quiz,  just to see how our skills are progressing .

Chemistry 12:  I did not get to see Unit 2 # 15 & 16, so please have it ready to show me on Thursday.  Today we did Lab 19B Parts I (make a dilution series) and Part II ( measure absorbance to find concentration).  Some groups will do Part II on Thursday.  No Lab homework, but I do want you to finish the WS titled "Review of 2.1 to 2.3" for Thursday.

Chemistry 11: Unit 5 # 6 & 7 (any 10 problems total) and # 8 & 9 (any 12 problems total).  Show math statements for everything and check answers along the way, paying attention to the number of digits in your final answers.  You were also given your myed login and password, and I would like you to be keeping track of your progress in Chemistry 11.

Chemistry 12:  Play with the Rates of Reaction animation.  Read Sections 2.1 and 2.2, and do # 1-13.  Review molar concentration and dilutions with this WS titled Review of Concentration.  Attached are notes on both concentration and dilutions

Chemistry 11:  Unit 1 Test on Monday, February 25th.  Today we did Lab 2A (Heating and Cooling Curves).  The Practice Test will be collected on Monday.

Chemistry 11:  Today we did Unit 4 # 8,9 and copied the names and formulas of 10 acids (just below # 9) into our data booklets.  We also did the Unit 1 Practice Test, and a key was put on the side counter.  There will be a Unit 1 Test on Monday, February 25th.

Chemistry 12:  Today we handed in our Rates of Reaction Practice Test and we did the Unit I test.

Chemistry 11: Today I collected Lab 2E and 3A.  We reviewed names and formulas of ionic compounds, and learned about hydrates.  We read pg 65-73 and did exercises # 1-5 (get enough practice, there is no need to do all the problems unless it helps you) and # 6,7 (do all of these).  We finished off with a practice quiz to review measurement and calculation skills.  View the Key here.

Chemistry 12:  After a mini review we spent time learning about Ozone depletion.  Time was spent on the Practice Test, which is due on Tuesday and will be collected.  I did not get time to check Unit 1 # 54-61, so please ensure this is ready for me to see on Tuesday.  We will have our Rates of Reaction test on Tuesday, and you will be given a fresh data booklet for your test.

Career Education 8:  Today we walked down to the WorkBC office and had a 50 minutes tour.  Thanks for being terrific ambassadors for our school.  Please be sure to tell your adults at home what you learned about at WorkBC.  Navigate to their Career Trek Video library to learn about 137 different careers, which might take you some time:)  Also, your mentors have been assigned, so you can begin dialoging with your mentor on the Mentorcity platform.

Chemistry 11:   Today we wrote a Conclusion for Lab 3A, using the Lab Marking Guide and sample Discussion found on the back of the Lab Marking Guide.  I collected this today, but will gladly take it on Friday if it is not done.   We did Lab 2E today, including all the Questions and Calculations, Follow up Questions, and a Discussion.    Lab techniques to write about:  why heat the container?  why have the lid on, then slightly off, then fully off?  why add water and then evaporate it off with high temperatures?  Lab 2E is also due at the start of class on Friday.

Chemistry 12:  After a review WS (HW Quiz Unit 1 # 41-45) we learned about catalysts, watched a video describing the mechanisms at work in a Catalytic Converter, and read sections 1.10, 1.11, 1,12.  Unit I # 54 - 61 are due on Friday.  We did a pink WS on mechanisms, which is due on Friday.  Half of the Practice Test is due on Friday.  We will have a unit test on Rates of Reaction on Tuesday.

Chemistry 12:  Nice work on Lab 18C on Monday.  If you had trouble completing it, is there any changes you can make to speed yourself up?  Today took notes on Reaction Mechanisms.  We read pg 24, 25, and section 1.9 in Hebdon.  Unit I # 41-52 is due on Wednesday.  I collected our most previous textbook work, Unit 1 # 29-33, 34-39.

Chemistry 11:  We spent a few minutes checking last day's Unit Conversions WS from the key.  We did Lab 3A, using measurements to find the thickness of Aluminum Foil.

Career Ed 8:

1.  Short Review
2.  About our mini field trip to the Employment Centre (meet by the Office on Thursday 8:45,  superior conduct there and in transit, be back in English with Ms. Vincent by 10:15)
3.  IT Lab.  Finish yesterday's sign-in procedure at Mentorcity (Basic Information,/Employment/Competencies section.) .   Follow the instructions on the pink hand-out to complete section 0.1 to 0.6 and 1.1 to 1.7.  If there is time, log in to myblueprint and continue with the Porfolio construction as outlined on the white instruction sheet dated February 11th 2019.

Chemistry 12:  Today we finished Lab 18C (all questions and follow-up questions, no conclusion).  For next class, be sure that Unit 1 # 24-28, 29-32, and 39 are done.  These were due last Friday.  Finish the WS titled  Review of 1.7 and 1.8.

Chemistry 11:  We did a WS titled Unit Conversions as well as a quiz in the last 10 minutes on Significant Figures and Measurement.  The quiz answer key can be found here.  I collected Unit 2 # 42, 46, 48-50, 56 and 57.   If you are travelling there is no need to print off any WS's, you are welcome to do your work in your notebook and I can provide the paper WS when you return.

Chemistry 11:  Today we used the Lab Marking Guide as a checklist to make sure that our Lab 2D's were complete.  You were not expected to have done a Conclusion/Discussion yet.  We also did a little review.  After taking notes on Significant Figures, we Read 2.5 and did 42, 46, 48-50, 56 and 57.

Chemistry 12:  Complete the graphs for Lab 18C as described in Question 1.  Work on the WS Titled Review 1.7 & 1.8.

Chemistry 12:  Unit 1 # 24-32, 33-39.  WS titled "Review of 1.7 and 1.8.  Both are due for Friday.  We also set up our coil bound Notebook for Lab 18C, which we will do on Friday.  Read the Lab in your Heath Lab Textbook so that you are familiar with it and can work quickly through the procedure.  WS Answers:  1) A, 2) D, 3)C, 4)A, 5)C, 6) A, 7)D, 8) B, 9) D, 10)A, 11) B, 12) C, 13) C, 14) B

Chemistry 11: After a short discussion about separating mixtures, we did Lab 2D.  Due Friday are all the Questions and Follow-up Questions.  These should be done in sentence format.

Chemistry 11:  Today we did the Density Lab, where we practiced measuring to the nearest one tenth of the smallest division.

Monday, February 4, 2019

Chemistry 11:  Measurement Intro WS and the Atoms and Molecules WS are due Tuesday.  Be sure to bring your ruler and calculator for Tuesday, for the Density Lab.

Chemistry 12:  We discussed Collision Theory and completed the middle and right column of our notes from Friday.  We read sections 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5.  Unit I problems # 10 and 12-22 are due on Wednesday.  We finished the day with a homework quiz and we handed in Unit 1 # 1-9.  Next class we will head to the Performing Art Centre Theatre and have a scholarship meeting.
