Chemistry 11:  Today we went over the answers to the Moles Practice Test, and your test will be on the double block.  We took notes on Chemical Reactions, and read pgs 105 to 108.  The WS titled Writing Reaction Equations was completed but will not be due until Friday.

Science 9:  After a short review of atomic structure, we used spectroscopes to view and sketch the spectra of several gases, fluorescent light, and sunlight.  We read section 7.4 and started pg 223 # 3-8, 10 and 11.  Pg 223 is not due next class.

Monday, October 25, 2021

Chemistry 11:  We began with a short review of key Moles Unit terms and percent composition of lead in the mineral Galena (PbS).  We spent most of our time completing the Moles Unit Practice Test, which is due Tuesday.  The Moles Unit Test will be during the double block.

Science 9:  Today I collected pg 217 # 1-11 and 14-18.  We watched two videos, one on Neon and the other on Argon.  We drew Bohr Diagrams for each element up to atomic number 20 and recognized trends in the outer shell, called the valence shell.   After this we looked at local lakes, mountains, and streams on a stylized map of our Area.

Senior Girls Volleyball:  Click here to see the TRU schedule and draw.

Thursday, October 21st

Chemistry 11:  Read pgs 99 to 102 and do # 78-82, 87, and 60g.  Expect a test on Moles on the double block next week.

Science 9:  Today I collected 212 # 5, 7-11.  We looked at elements representing by the 4 key Families [Alkali Metals, Alkaline Earth Metals, Halogens, and Noble Gases].  After reading section 7.3 we completed pg 217 # 1-11, 14-18, which is due on Monday.

Wednesday, October 20th

Chemistry 11:  Read pgs 99 to 102 and do # 78-82, 87, and 60g.  Expect a test on Moles on the double block next week.

Tuesday, October 19th

Science 9:  We read section 7.2 and completed pg 212 # 5, 7-11 which is due on Thursday.  Time was given to work on your poster, which is due Monday.

Chemistry 11:  Today we made a Standard Solution, then wrote a Lab Report [Title, Purpose, Materials, Procedure].  Lab 4D should now be handed in.  I also collected Unit 5 # 59, 61-64 from period DH.

Monday, October 18, 2021

Chemistry 11:  I collected Lab 4D today as well as any remaining Empirical Formula Worksheets.  We took notes on Molar Concentration, then completed Unit 5 # 59 and 61-64, which are due on Tuesday.  Next day we will make a standard solution.

Science 9:  After a short review, we reviewed atomic structure and learned how to tell how many electrons, protons, and neutrons are in an atom.  Everyone was assigned an atom (except awesome Carver, who was assigned 3 atoms!), everyone made a poster showing the number and location of all the subatomic particles in their atom.  We will finish this poster on Tuesday.

Thursday, October 14, 2021

Chemistry 11:  Today I collected Unit 5 # 44/45 (any 10) and U5 # 22-24 (any 6).  Lab 4B should now be in.  Due Friday is U5 # 46 (a,c,e,h,k,j).  Lab 4D will be due Monday, so get as much done as possible tonight and you will have a little time for this on Friday.

Wednesday, October 13, 2021

Chemistry 11:  Lab 4B was collected today.  Due Friday is Unit 5 # 46 a,c,e,f,h,j,k.  We did Lab 4D today.  Complete as much as you can now and some time will be given to complete it on Friday.  Lab 4D will be due Monday.

Science 9:  The Density Lab was collected today.  We read Section 6.2 and completed Pg 192 # 1-7 and 9-12 in quality point form - this is due Friday.  In the second half we did Lab 5A (all procedure, Analysis a-j) and this will be due Monday.

Tuesday, October 12, 2021

Chemistry 11:  Today we learned how to calculate the percentage composition of each element in a compound.  Due next class is Unit 5 # 44, 45 (any 10 problems) and Unit 5 # 22-24 (any 6 problems).  That makes a total fo 16 problems due next class.  We will do a quiz on percent composition and general moles skills at the end of next class.

Science 9:  We started with a short lesson on measurement, where we learned that we always measure from the bottom of the meniscus.  Bring the container up to eye level to read it, and write measurments to the nearest one-tenth of the smallest division.  We completed a Worksheet on Volume Measurement, which is due Wednesday.  We did the Density Lab too, and the 4 density calculations are due Wednesday too.

Thursday, October 7, 2021

Chemistry 11 DH:  For Friday, have any 12 problems from Unit 5 # 15-17, 21 done.  I will give you time for Lab 4B on Friday.  There will be a quiz on Friday too.

Science 9:  Today we started with a Cell Division and Reproduction Practice Test.  Click here to see the answer key for the written portion.  Your scan-tron card was given back to you,  with the answers printed in pink if you made an error.  Look at your errors to improve your results on Friday's Cell Division and Reproduction Practice Test.   Before break Mr. B showed us a little explosion!   Thanks Mr. B!  In the second half, we looked samples of about 15 different elements, and completed a table where we recorded the element's name, symbol, and properties.  We also categorized the element as a metal or non-metal.

Chemistry 11, AE:  We learned how to do "two stepper" mole calculations, and used Unitary Rates to show our work.  Today is the only day I will ask you to use unitary rates, after today it is your choice on how to show your work but I do want you to know it is an effective and common way to show conversions of any kind.

In the second half you were divided into groups according to an area of focus chosen by you.  With your group, watch/read the resources offered to you.  Click on the links below that match your focus group, and watch or read the resource.

Science 9:  After looking at the Key for page 121 we made a placemat showing types of Reproductive Technologies for humans.  We read section 4.7, and filled in the placemat with brief notes.  We watched this clip, showing Intercytoplasmic Sperm Injection.  In the second half, everyone was given 2 or 3 anatomy diagrams.  These were used to make a labelling worksheet for another students to potentially use.  On your homemade worksheet,  show a useful header at the top.  Provide instructions for the user.  Organize your diagrams clearly and provide a space for the user to write their responses.  Color your diagrams neatly.  Provide an answer key on a separate page.

Chemistry 11:  Do Unit  # 15-17, and 21 in Hebdon - do 12 problems in total.  Finish the Questions and Follow-up Questions for  Lab 4B.  See the sample lab at the side counter, and ensure that all of your reported values are to the correct number of digits and have units and a chemical symbols.

Chemistry 11 DH and AE:  After writing our Intro Unit Test we took notes on the Gases at STP.  Finish Unit 5 # 11,12 for Monday.  Prep Lab 4D as well, for Monday.  The new texts use SATP, which is very useful but lets stick with STP for this course:  ask a classmate with the older text to show you their answer key.

Science 9:  Pg 78 # 1-17 (half in sentences, half in quality point form) was handed back today with comments meant to help you improve your written communication.  Please complete it as soon as possible if you did not finish it yet.   After a short review of human reproductive anatomy, we watched this clip on Ovulation.  We read Section 4.2 on the human female reproductive system and did pg 116 # 1-7, 9. 11, and 14.  Half in sentences, half in quality point form.  Due on Monday.
