Chemistry 11:  Today we did Lab 20C, our first ever titration.  The Questions and Follow-up Questions are due Friday.  Tuesday is the day of our Chemical Reactions Unit Test, and your practice test is due that day too.  Click here to see the assignment log.

Science 8:  We reviewed waves and EMR, then we read pgs 168 - 171 and completed pg 171 # 1-5 [include 2 figures in your work to help explain your ideas].  We watched this clip.  We finished the mini lab where we measured the incident angle and reflected angle for light rays striking a plane mirror, and we graphed the data.  To finish, we did the procedure only for lab 5-2.  If you could not attend today, lab 5-2 is something that you can complete at home.  Page 171 and the graph is due Friday.  Click here to see the assignment log.

Make a graph of Angle of Reflection versus Angle of Incidence.

Tuesday, April 25

Science 8:  After observing compression waves and transverse waves in slinky's time was spent finishing the placemat on electromagnetic radiation.  The placemat is due on Wednesday.  We finished with a mini lab, where we measured the angle of incidence and angle of reflection using a ray box.  Click here to see the assignment log.

Chemistry 11:  I collected the Stoichiometry Problems WS, then we prepared Lab 20C.  We began the Reactions Unit Practice Test today, and it will be due on Friday.  The reactions unit test will be Tuesday. Click here to see the assignment log.

Science 8:  Today I collected pg 151 # 2-10.  We learned about the Electromagnetic Spectrum, and wrote notes on our placemat as we read pgs 152-157. For each type of EMR, we listed applications (ways that it is used), and created one sketch for each type of EMR.  We also spoke briefly about how cellular phone networks are used.

Chemistry 11:  We began with a short review of Endothermic and Exothermic Reactions as well as percent yield.  We completed the legal sized WS titled "Stoichiometry Calculations", which is due for next class.  Ensure that all you calculations for Lab 6B are completed.

Science 8:  We began with a short review of cell structure and human body systems.  We completed the Biology Unit Practice Test, and we spent time finishing pg 95 # 2-11 (in point form).  Click here to see the answer key.  On Tuesday we will have a Bio Unit Test.   Click here to see the assignment log.

Chemistry 11:  We learned how to make initial/change/final tables to understand stoichiometry, and we completed the WS titled  "Stoichiometry involving Limiting Reactant", which is due Tuesday.  Click here to see the key.  We went through writing conclusions, and Lab 6A is also due Tuesday. Click here to see the assignment log.

Chemistry 11:  We began with a minireview of balancing, followed by Part II of Lab 6A.  All of the questions and follow-up questions are due Monday.  I will give you time for a conclusion on Monday, and the lab will be due on Tuesday.  We also were treated to some delicious maple sugar candy by the Francophone school - thank you !  Click here to see the assignment log.

Science 8:  After a short review of the heart anatomy, we reviewed the immune system and finished our Title panel on the flippit.  The Flippit should now be complete.  We started page 95 # 2-11, but this is not due Monday.   Spend time reviewing this weekend, because on Tuesday we will have a test on Cells and the Immune System (also, a few other systems because they connect to the immune system).  You can expect a practice test on Monday.  Click here to see the assignment log.

Chemistry 11:  After a mini review of balancing reaction equations, we did Lab 6A Day 1 of 2.  Calculations # 1a, 2a, 3 and 4 can be finished today.  I marked the Predicting Products WS too.  We also took notes on Stoichiometry, we read pgs 123 and 124, and completed U7 # 1-4.  Everyone received a print-off showing their grades today.

Tuesday, April 11, 2023

Chemistry 11:  After a mini review of balancing, we took notes on the Categories of Chemical Reactions.  Knowing these categories, we can now predict products.  We did the WS titled Predicting Products, which is due on Wednesday.  Click here to see the assignment log

Science 8:  We reviewed the Immune System by looking at infections of the gum as well as teeth.  We labelled a Respiratory System anatomy sheet, and we watched this video about the Respiratory System.  After reading pages 90 and 91, we did page 91 # 1-5 in sentences and everyone tested their vital capacity.  Do students in aerobic sports have a larger vital capacity?  Or is vital capacity determined by your size? Pg 91 is due on Thursday.  Click here to see the assignment log.

Chemistry 11:  Tomorrow is your Moles Unit Test!  Yeah!  It is going to go well - please put in some time to ensure your success.  Click here to see the Practice Test Multiple Choice Key, and click here to see the Written Response Key.  I look forward to seeing you after your 4 day weekend!

I am currently in Bamfield, chaperoning a field trip to the Bamfield Marine Science Centre.  We have been learning about all things ocean - so fun! Please consider this trip next year.
