Chemistry 11:  We learned about the differences between a molecular formula and an empirical formula.  We also learned how to determine the empirical formula given the percent composition.  Due Tuesday is U5 # 46 (a,c,e,f,h, j, and k).

Science 8:  We started with a WS where we measured the wavelength and amplitude of different wave series.  We took notes on waves, learned how to calculate frequency, and determined the frequency of a homemade pendulum.  Only the WS is due Tuesday.  Ensure that you have a ruler and calculator for Science 8, its just not possible to succeed fully without your equipment.  Also, you are too old to be asking instructors for learning tools:)

Friday, October 14, 2022

 Chemistry 11:  Lab 4B was collected today.  We did U5 # 44 and 45 (any 12 problems, total).  We finished off with a quiz on skills from U5 # 22 & 24 .

Science 8:  Today we did our Chemistry Test, then we measured wavelength and amplitude of waves.

Chemistry 12:  We did U2 # 58 to 64 today, and these are due Monday.   Lab 19B is also due Monday ( Questions, FUQ #1, Conclusion).  We will do an Equilibrium (Chapter 2) test next Thursday.

Thursday, October 13, 2022

Science 8:  We went through the answer key to the Chemistry Unit Practice Test today to start our class.  Time was spent learning about waves, then we read section 4.1 and completed pg 138 # 1-5 in sentences.  In the second half we did the Pop Can Lab.  Tomorrow we have the Chemistry Unit Test.

Wednesday, October 12, 2022

Chemistry 12:  Today we did a mini review for sections 2.4 to 2.6, then we learned about Keq calculations, including K Trial.  Due Friday is U 2 # 47 - 57.  Lab 19C,  (all Questions, FUQ #1, and a conclusion) is due Monday. Click here for an answer key for the Keq problems.

Chemistry 11:  Due Friday is Unit 5 # 22, 24, and 21, as well as Lab 4B (Questions, Follow-up Questions, and a Conclusion).   We also learned about percent composition, and # 44 and 45 (any 12 problems total) are due too.  We finished with this quiz on U5 # 15.

Tuesday, October 11th

Chemistry 12:  We added to our Keq notes from Friday, then we did Unit 2 # 36-46 (skip 43) and these are due on Wednesday.  There was also a little time to work on Lab 19C, but it is not yet due.

Chemistry 11:  After a short review of moles, we did U5 # 15 and finished off the procedure for Lab 4B.  Lab 4B will be due Friday.

Science 8:  We spoke about how to prepare for a Science test in high school, because our Chemistry Unit Test will be on Friday.  A little time was spent reviewing with our partners, where we asked our partners questions in an effort to help them remember the ideas we have been studying.  Repetition, and allowing enough wait time were important techniques to use when studying with a partner.  We spoke about how reviewing class notes, completed assignments, and the textbook (Chapter 7, in this case) is beneficial for test preparation.  Everyone received a chemistry practice test, and this is due for Thursday.

Saturday, October 8, 2022

Chemistry 12:  We took notes on the factors that drive equilibrium, so that we can estimate whether a reaction will go to products, form an equilibrium, or not form reactants at all.  Unit 2 # 14-16 is due on Tuesday.   Lab 19B is not due.

Chemistry 11:  At the beginning I collected Unit 5 # 11,12,16 and 17.  Today we did Lab 4B, but nothing is due for Tuesday.

Science 8:  We spent a little time on Lab 10-3, then we went to watch the Senior Girls volleyball team play at their tournament.  We spent a little time talking about what to do, and what not to do at a school athletics event.  Nothing is due Tuesday, but there will be a test next week on everthing we have learned so far.

Science 8:  We marked pg 208 from the Science Probe 9, then we looked at this animation that shows how Rutherford figured out that the atom's nucleus is very small and contains nearly all fo the mass of an atom.  The famous Gold Foil Experiment.  Here are the notes we wrote on atomic structure.  We learned how to light bunsen burners as well as all of the safety issues around using these devices.  No work is due for Thursday.

Chemistry 12:  After a short review of Le Chatelier's principle, we spent our time on Career Life Connections.

Monday, October 3, 2022

Chemistry 12:  We started with a short review of Le Chatelier's Principle, using the production of chemical lime (CaO) as an example of a reversible system.  This video clip shows several ways that LeFarge shifts the equilibrium to products as quickly as possible.  We took notes on The Equilibrium Constant, read sections 2.5 and 2.6, and completed Unit 2 # 31-35.  Next day we will start Career Life Connections.
