Chemistry 11:  We discussed the development of atomic theory over time, and how our understanding changes as new technology allows better measurements and new observations.  We saw a Cathode Ray Tube in action, producing a beam of electrons.  We viewed this animation showing Rutherford's Gold Foil Experiment.   We spent time reading pgs 139 - 147 and completing # 13-19 in quality point form.  We will have a Test on Reactions (Chapter 6 & 7) tomorrow, Tuesday.

Chemistry 12:  We carried on with Lab 20G today.  No work is due for the lab, but ensure that Unit 4 # 28-30 is done.

Science 8:  Today we learned about concentrated and dilute solutions. We viewed this animation to show how in mixtures the molecules move from high concentration to low concentration through random movement.  We read pg 56 & 57 and created a placemat (for each system, write the name, function, and two parts).  Due tomorrow is pg 39 # 1-10.

Science 8:  Today I collected pg 31 # 1-6 as well as the "More About Cells" placemat.  We took notes on Cell Anatomy and Cell Theory.  A quiz on Microscope anatomy followed.  In the second half we did a lab where we observed the cells in onions before and after they were stained.  We "drew the field", meaning we made a circle and sketched a few of the cells we observed, labelling any structures that were visible.  In the last few minutes we watched this video clip, then with our partner we verbally labelled the 15 structures on the cell quiz, although #4, 5, 8, and 15 are not for Science 8 .  On Friday we will have a similar practice quiz.

Tuesday, November 22, 2022

Science 8:  We began by going through pg 31 # 1-6, which will be collected tomorrow.  We read pgs 29 to 35, and we wrote brief notes on the placemat that we constructed together.  In the last part we discussed the anatomy of a microscope and there will be quiz on the Microscope parts on Wednesday.

Chemistry 11:  We took notes on Endothermic and Exothermic reactions after a short discussion about Energy.  We read section 6.6, and due Thursday is U6 # 70-80 as well as Lab 20C.  Both Labs 6A and 6B should already be handed in.

Chemistry 12:  Today we took notes on Conjugate Acid-Base Pairs, and we did Unit 4 # 15-19.  We also Spent time on Lab 20B, which is due Thursday without a conclusion.  Do not spent much time on the Follow-up questions; some of the results do not help with the completion of the FUQs.  Just try your best.

Chemistry 12:  Today we took notes on Bronsted Lowry Acids and Bases, we continued on the reading of Sections 4.1 to 4.4, and completed Unit 4 # 1-14 (not due Thursday).  The Solubility Unit Test is on Thursday, and your practice test will be collected that day too.

Chemistry 11:  We started with a mini review of writing reaction products, then time was given to finish Lab 6B.  Lab 6A should be handed in already.  In the final 20 minutes, we went through the steps of performing a titration, which is a technique to find an unknown concentration.  On Thursday, you will do Lab 20C and try out your first titrations.

Science 8:  We began with a short session on self assessing our academic effort and we set some individual goals for Term 2.  Then a short review of optics, followed by an experiment.  You and your partner's research question was:  "Does a heavier mass increase the frequency of a pendulum?".  As scientists, you devised a procedure, followed it, and recorded data. Thats all you had to do for this today.  Click here to see the key to the written response of our Practice Test.  I will give you the answers to the multiple choice section tomorrow.  Our Optics Test is tomorrow, Wednesday.
