Science 9:  Below are some pdf's of texts we have been using in our class, to help you prepare for your Biogeochemical Cycling Test.   Don't forget that you will have your data booklet available to you, with illustrations of Carbon, Phosphorus, and Nitrogen cycles.

Reading on Biomes

Reading about the Carbon Cycle as well as pg 91 Review Questions

Reading about the Nitrogen Cycle, as well as pg 95 Review Questions

Reading about the Phosphorus Cycle, as well as pg 100 Review Questions

Key to Biogeochemical Cycling Practice Test

Monday, December 13, 2021

Chemistry 11:  We took notes on Alkynes and Alkenes, then we did WS #4, which is due Tuesday.  We also worked on the Dead Sea lab but this is not due Tuesday.

Science 9:  We watched a clip on Sustainability called The Story of Bottled Water.  We did the Biogeochemical Cycling Practice Test, which is due on Thursday.  We will have a test on Biogeochemical Cycling on Thursday.  Be sure to add helpful notes to your Databooklet, where you have useful Figures showing the C, P, and N cycles.

Friday, December 10, 2021

Science 9:  We started with a few clips showing the flow of water in the oceans and air in the atmosphere.  We wrote notes on the Cycling of Air and Water and we read pg 440 and 441 in the old Science Probe 10.  Time was given for Lab 10-3.  We finished off with a discuss about Carbon Storage and drew a Bar Graph showing the carbon storage vs biome.   Lab 10-3 is due Monday, but not the Graph.

Chemistry 11:  Today we learned about Cyclic Hydrocarbons and Haloalkanes.  Read pg 222 to 224 in Hebdon.  Complete Organic WS # 3 as well as Hebdon Unit 10 # 17 & 18 - all of this is due Monday.  We wrote a quiz today and we handed in Unit 10 # 3-9.

Wednesday, December 8, 2021

Science 9:  View this clip on Thermohaline Circulation, then view this video on the Phosphorus Cycle.  Finish pg 100 # 1-8 and 10-16 from the Old Science Probe 10 Text for Friday.  Complete Lab 10-3 from the hand-out, this is not due Friday.  I need a few more Biomes Placemats from students that did not hand it in on Tuesday.  PLEASE BRING A FOOD ITEM FOR THE FOOD BANK FOR FRIDAY:).

Chemistry 11:  Today we did the Atomic Theory Unit Test.  Unit 10 # 3-9 are due Friday.  For each in #s 3-9. problem, be sure to sketch the molecule.  Organic WS # 1 and 2 should be done.  We also got going with our Dead Sea Lab.

Tuesday, December 7, 2021

Science 9:  Bring some non-parishable food for the food bank!  Wednesday!  We read about the Phosphorus Cycle today in the Science Probe 10 Text.  We started pg 100 # 1-8 and 10-16, but only # 1-8 are due next class.

Chemistry 11:  We started off by writing notes on the rules of naming and drawing branched alkanesOrganic WS #2 was started, but it is not due Wednesday.   We will have a unit test on the double block day - please ensure that you have graph paper for that day.  Click here to see the key to the Atomic Theory Practice Test.

Monday, December 6, 2021

Science 9:  Due next day is your Biome placemat, where everyone took brief notes on each of the 8 biomes described in the Science Probe 10 Text [name, rainfall in cm, 2 animal species, 2 plant species, 1 key fact].  We also finished the 2 climatographs - one for Revelstoke and one for a mystery biome.  We looked at a few pictures showing the possessions of families from around the world - click here to see the full document.  We finished off with "The Story of Stuff"

Chemistry 11:  We took notes on Intermolecular Bonding, then we read pages 179-184 as well as Section 8.4.  Unit 8 # 79-84 are due Tuesday, as well as the Practice Test.  The Atomic Theory Test is on the double block.

Friday, December 3, 2021

Chemistry 11:  We started off by going over Organic WS #1 - on Monday we will have a quiz on the names of the first 10 alkanes.  Must eat peanut butter!  We wrote notes on our 2 graphs from Lab 11 A that show periodic trends.  We started our Atomic Theory Practice Test, which is due Tuesday.  Atomic Theory Test on the double block day next week.

Science 9:  We started with a short review, followed by this clip on the C and N cycles.   After this we went through answers to page 95 # 1-15 & 17.  We read pgs 54 to 57 in the old Probe 10.  On our placemats we made notes on the first 4 biomes  (Name of Biome, Annual Rainfall in cm, 2 common plant & 2 common animal species, 1 special fact). We finished off with time to complete the Climate Graphs from Wednesday (a graph for Revelstoke and a graph for a mystery city from pg 75 (choose one if you have not yet been assigned one)

Thursday, December 2, 2021

Chemistry 11:  We started with Lab 12 B, where we labelled 4 types of molecular geometry.  After this, we started a little solution chemistry  - The Dead Sea was discussed because it is a good example of a saturated solution.  Everyone made mini Dead Seas and in the next few classes we will determine the [NaCl].  We took notes together on Ionic Bonding.  pgs 170 to pg 175 was read and Unit 8 # 57 to 67 were completed.  These are due next class.  In the second half we started the Organic Chemistry unit with some slides, notes on Organic Chemistry, and Organic WS #1This clip shows some key information on the formation of Petroleum.

Science 9:  Today I collected pg 91 # 1-14 and we marked # 1-8 before handing it back in.  I will mark the rest.  We looked at the Nitrogen Cycle diagram in our data booklet, and we watched this short clip on Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria.  We read sections 4.3 in the old Probe 10, then completed pg 95 # 1-15, 17 (half in sentences, half in quality point form).  This short clip shows how the dirt is aerated by worms.  In the second half we had a short discussion about climate, and we made two climate graphs:  one for Revelstoke and one from Lab 3A in the Science Probe 10.  The graphs are not due Friday, only pg 95 # 1-15, 17 is due.

Chemistry 11:  We started with Lab 12 B, where we labelled 4 types of molecular geometry.  The Dead Sea was discussed because it is a good example of a saturated solution.  Everyone made mini Dead Seas and in the next few classes we will determine the [NaCl].  We took notes together on Ionic Bonding.  pgs 170 to pg 175 was read and Unit 8 # 57 to 67 were completed.  These are due next class.  In the second half we started the Organic Chemistry unit with some slides, notes on Organic Chemistry, and Organic WS #1.
