Science 8:  Lab 13D - for a conclusion, write a paragraph explaining how the epicentre location is determined by triangulation.  On Tuesday we will finish the questions for Lab 13D.  We also learned about calculating speed from distance and time.  Finals are about 3 weeks away - now is a good time to begin review:)

Science 8:  I collected the 5 homemade questions (and separate answer key )about Earthquakes.  Today we read about Continental Drift and cut and paste the continents into an approximate shape of Pangea.   By matching up bands of fossil and geological evidence, we were attempting to model the movement of the continents over the past 200 million years.  Despite what was seen in the short video we watched, this movement was not caused by Scrat trying to bury an acorn. We will get into the causes of continental drift next week.  Please have Pangea glued down by Monday, otherwise, there is no homework to do over the weekend.

Science 8:  Read about earthquakes (pg 300 - 305) on the hand-out and make your own problem set of 5 questions and an answer key( due on Friday).   We did lab 13D today, about how to find the epicentre of an earthquake, but this is not due on Friday.

Science 8:  Today I collected the Optics and Waves Practice Test, then we wrote the Optics and Waves Test.  Nothing is due on Wednesday, May 24th.

Friday, May 19, 2017

Science 8:  Today we went over the answers to the Optics and Waves practice test.  We wrote notes on Earthquakes, and reviewed all the continent and ocean names.  There will be an Optics and Waves Test on Tuesday.

Science 8:  Today we dissected a cow's eye (Lab 6-4)in order to deepen our understanding of the eye's structure.  Due on Friday is Analyze # 1-3 and Conclude & Apply # 1,2  in lab 6-4.   We also did a Waves and Optics practice test, which is due Friday.  There will be a Waves and Optics Test on Tuesday, May 23rd.

Science 8:  Due Tuesday is pg 215 # 1-6,8.  Expect a test on Optics and Vision at the end of the week, or early next week.
Friday, May 12.

Today we read about near sightedness, far sightedness, astigmatism, and blindness. We took simple notes about these conditions as we read pg 206 to 210.

Science 8:  Today we did the lens lab, but it is not due Friday.  We labelled a human eye anatomy sheet and you will have a quiz on Friday on human eye anatomy.  After reading pg 202 - 205, we did pg 205 # 1-5 and 198 # 1-9 in sentences.  Due from Tuesday is pg 197 # 1-7, 9-11.

Science 8:  Today we read section 5.3 and did pg 197 # 1-11 in fine sentences, full of key terms.  If you draw a ray diagram, make sure it is neat, labelled, and large.

May 4th

Science 8:  pg 189 # 2-6, 8-10 and Lab 5-3 (Questions 1-2b).  Lab 5-7 from Tuesday was collected.

May 2nd

Science 8:  Today we did Lab 5-7 on converging and diverging mirrors, which is due on Thursday.  Lab 5-5 was collected.

May 1st

Science 8:  Notes on Mirrors.  We found the focal length of a concave mirror by creating a clear image of Crusty the Clown on a screen, and measured the "screen to mirror" distance.  Some time was given for Lab 5-5, which is due tomorrow.
