Science 9:  After completing the Electricity Test we reviewed cell biology and Mitosis.  A short video clip showed us an animation of Mitosis.  We wrote notes on Reproduction and Meiosis.  Page 78 # 1-17 (half sentences, half point form) was started after section 3.1 was read.  Nothing is due on Friday.

Chemistry 12:  We began with some examples on Spontenaeity, then did Unit 5 # 8-14 plus 2 balancing problems from #24.  In the second half we learned about electrochemical cells.  After taking notes together, we read 5,8 and 5.9.  Unit 5 # 34-37 are due Friday too.  We finished off with a quiz on Balancing using the half cell method.

Tuesday, December 17, 2019

Chemistry 12:  Today we learned how to balance half cells and full cells using the half cell method.  You need to do 4 acidic and and 4 basic reactions from both # 19 and 24.  16 balancing problems in total.

Science 9:  Today we did the Electricity Practice Test.  We also watched a clip on Unit 5 at Mica and one on a Solar farm in the Prairies.  Next class we will have an electricity test and you will be able to use your awesome cheat sheet.

Science 9:  After a short review we took notes on Electrical Energy.  We read section 11.3 and did pg 354 # 1-3, 5, 7-12.  We finished with a short clip showing the installation of a giant GE wind turbine.

Chemistry: Today we worked on Lab 21D (Questions 1, 2 (a,b), 3(a,b), 4 and Follow-up Questions # 1-4, no conclusion)

Friday, December 13

Chemistry 12:  Today we did the procedure for Lab 21D.  Nothing is due for Monday.

Science 9:  Today we marked the second resistor color code practice and we reviewed different ways that electricity is generated.  We did Lab 4G, and watched this short clip on Tidal Power.   Your only assignment is to take 15 minutes and do the Energy Inventory in your home for Monday.

Household Electrical Inventory:

Go through your home and gather the information listed below.  Images need to be saved to your OneDrive, with useful file names.  Be safe while you are gathering this information.

A) Take photographs of your electrical panel, hot water heater, heat sources for your home (furnace, radiator, wood stove, etc) , stove and oven(s), washer and dryer if you have one.  Take a photo of where electricity enters your home.

B) Get a pdf or take pictures of your last 3 BC Hydro Invoices.  See me if this is not possible.

C) Using a table, make an inventory of all the light fixtures in your house.  Try to determine the power rating for each one.  Scan or photograph this table.

D) Using a table, make an inventory of electrical devices not mentioned so far that are always connected to a source (microwave, fridge, TV, etc).  Scan or photograph this table.

E) Determine what energy form is used by your furnace and your hot water heater.

At school, we will use Word to make a report on the energy use in our homes.  You will need to gather this information by December 16.

Chemistry 12:  The Acid-Base test was written today.  Well done!  We wrote brief notes on Electrochemistry, then did Unit 5 # 1-6.

Science 9:  An answer key for pg 334 was given you along with a little more practice on Resistor Color codes.  We had a short discussion about how much electricity affects our lifestyles, and we considered what our lives would be like if we had no electricity for 6 weeks.  A table with headings "Source", "How it works", and "Renewable?" was constructed and filled in with brief notes while we read section 11.3.  We watched a short video, click here to see it.   In the second half we did the Measuring Current Lab and pg 332 # 1-10.  We made a small green cheat sheet for use in the Electricity Unit Test.

Science 9:  Read 11.2 and do pg 344 # 1-5, 11 and pg 319 # 2-4.

Monday, December 9, 2019

Chemistry 12:  After a short review we did the Acid Base Practice Test today, and this is due Tuesday.  Acid Base Unit Test on Thursday.

Science 9:  Today we marked the Ohm's Law WS, and we measured resistors to see how close they are to their stated values.  Finish the right column for Tuesday.

Chemistry 12:  We took notes on the Acid-Base Chemistry of Metal and Non-Metal Oxides.  After reading section 4.19, we did U4 # 144-147.  Lab 20G and the long Green Ka and Kb WS should be done by now, ensure that Mr. Gale has these.  Finish Lab 20H Procedure Part I.  You were given the Acid Base Practice Test today, and I will give you 40 minutes for this on Monday.   Your Acid-Base Unit Test will be on Thursday.

Science 9:  Pg 314 # 1-14 was collected today.  We started off with a review of measuring Resistance, then we took a stab at drawing a schematic for my electric kettle.  We used pg 316 to learn how to find the resistance of resistors from their colored bands. The last half of the class was spent on Ohms Law.  The Ohms Law WS and the Color Code WS are due Monday.
