Chemistry 11 and 12:  Final Exam (called School Exam  on myed ) results should now be available to you on your myed account.  The course grade and the Term 4 grade have not been finalized, so please disregard that data for a few more days.  By Wednesday it will all be official.
Thanks again for all your hard work - it was a pleasure to work with you.  Have a terrific summer.

Cheers,

Chemistry 12:  Want a complete list of vocab for this course?  Pages 52 to 65ish in this Curriculum Book will show you all the key terms.  After a 60 minute Mock final, we spent time on practice booklets.  Be sure to have someone help you sort out the tough parts.  We will have a Final Exam on Friday morning.   Please take back your textbooks to the library.

Chemistry 11:  Nice work on your Final Exam!  I will post the grades on myed as soon as possible.  Please take back your textbooks to the library.

Careers 8:  Be sure to follow all the instructions given to you on my May 31 blog post.  If you have added items this week, please message me at ggale@sd19.bc.ca.

Chemistry 11:  After a short review we worked on a 60 minute mock final assignment that was written under test conditions with fresh databooklets, like your final tomorrow.  I will count the mark for  you if it helps your grade.  Be sure to turn in any of the "Year End Review" assignments that you have completed and self marked with the keys at the side counter.  Please take your texts back to the Library tomorrow morning before your Final Exam.

Chemistry 11:  Today we did 4 practice reaction equations for the formation of an ester.  Carboxylic Acids and Alcohols, when heated gently with a little sulfuric acid, may form an ester.  We also did the Organic Practice test, which is due on Monday.  Click here for the answer key.  Your Organic Test will be on Monday.

Chemistry 12:  Today we did the practical part of Lab 20H, a titration curve for a strong acid and a strong base.  We graphed it.

Thursday, June 13, 2019

Chemistry 11:  Today we did Lab 7B, Finding the Molar Volume of a Gas.  Finish the calculations and follow up questions for Friday.  No Conclusion.

Chemistry 12:  We completed the Electrochemistry Test.  Well done!  See your results on myed now.

Chemistry 12:  After a short review and some answers to the Electrolytic Cell Mini Review, we spent time on the Electrochemistry Practice Test.  Tomorrow we have a unit test on Electrochemistry.

Chemistry 11:  We marked WS #9, then wrote notes on Oxy Functional Groups.  For practice we completed Parts B and C.  Final exam review took up most of the rest of class.  We finished with a Quiz.

Tuesday, June 11, 2019

Chemistry 11:  After marking parts of Organic WS #6, we learned about Aromatics (rings containing  alternating single and double bonds).  We did Unit 10 # 29-31.  In the second half we learned about alcohol functional groups.  WS # 9 is due Wednesday.

Chemistry 12: We learned how to balance redox equations using the Change in Oxidation Number method, and we did U5 # 25 (any 6 problems).  After today, you can use either method to balance redox equation.  The Electrolysis minireview is due Wednesday.  On Thursday morning, we will have an Electrochemistry Unit Test.

Monday, June 10, 2019

Chemistry 12:  Today we watched How its Made videos on both Aluminum Smelting and Electroplating.  Well, nearly watched the second video.   We took notes on Electrolysis and Electroplating, read Unit 5.13, and did 64-66, 71, 73, and 80.  Due on Tuesday are the two labs, as well as the Hebdon problems.   Electrochem Test on Thursday.

Chemistry 11:  After a short discussion on cis and trans isomers, we did Organic WS #6 which is due Tuesday.  Continue to work on the YER Review assignments one at a time.   Your Organic Test is on Monday.

Friday, June 7, 2019

Chemistry 12:  We started off with a review WS on cell potential, followed by notes on Corrosion.  Due Monday is Unit 5 # 60-63.  Labs 21C and 21D are due on Tuesday, and your Electrochemistry Test will be on Thursday morning.

Chemistry 11:  Today we learned about Double and Triple Bonded hydrocarbons.    After reading Unit 10 Section 4 and writing notes together, we did WS #4 and spent time finishing Lab 6C.  There was a homework quiz at the end.  Your Organic Test will be on Monday, June 17th.

Thursday, June 6, 2019

Chemistry 11:  We started with some review of percent composition and finding empirical formula, looking at SiO2 (quartz crystals).  pg 90 and 92 in Hebdon have the questions we did back in March on these skills, try a few for review.  A few examples on the board, and looking at the molecular model kit showed everyone about how to name and draw structures of cyclic hydrocarbons.  Read pg 222 -225 and do Unit 10 # 15 and 16, drawing every structure.   Finish Lab 6C, which is due Monday (all questions, follow-up questions, and a conclusion).  For those who had time, we started a year end review WS on the Moles Unit.  In the second half, we took notes on the names and structures of Haloalkanes, read 10.3, and did Unit 10 # 17-20.  All the textbook work is due Friday.

Chemistry 12:   Unit 5 # 47,48, 41-43.  Labs 21C and 21D are due Tuesday.  Test on Electro-chem on Thursday am.

Tuesday, June 4, 2019

Chemistry 12:  We finished the procedure for Lab 21C.  All the Questions and Calculations, and Follow-up Questions are required, but no Conclusion.  Lab 21D can also be finished now (all Questions, Follow-up Questions, and a Conclusion).  Don't worry about lab 20H, we will do the procedure of part II in one of our last classes.

Chemistry 11:  I collected unit 10 # 3-9.  Today we finished Lab 6C (all Questions, Follow-up Questions, and a Conclusion).  At the end we did a homework quiz on U10 # 3-9.

Monday, June 3, 2019

Chemistry 12:  Today we did Lab 21C, a Redox Titration.  We will continue on Tuesday with this lab.  You will find that 20G is marked.  Lab 20 H Part I is not yet marked, because I want to do Part II in one of the last few classes, as a review exercise.  Lab 21D is also ongoing, but I think we have all the skills needed to finish now so be sure to spend some time completing 21D.   I did not look at U3 # 36-40 & 44, which was due today.  Ensure that you are sinking time into your final exam preparation.

Chemistry 11:  Your product from Lab 6C is still not evaporated completely!  Today we did Unit 10 # 3-9, and make sure you draw every molecule.  Don't crowd your work:).  Tomorrow we will finish Lab 6C.  Ensure that you are sinking time into your final exam preparation.
