Chemistry 11:  We went over the practice Safety Quiz from Wednesday and the 3rd column of the Matter Table.  Time was given for Unit 2 # 46-48, which is due Monday.  We took notes on Measurement and Significant Figures, then we did Unit 2 # 56 (also due Monday).  We finished off with  the Density Lab where we made measurements to help us calculate density for 4 materials.  It is important to include only measurements in the Data section, and to do calculations in the Calculation section. Time and instruction will be give on Monday for the Density Lab, it is not due.

Career Life Connections:  Grade 12s' , its time to sign up for a Capstone Presentation!  See the notice Board at the top of the main stairs for the sig-up sheet.

Chemistry 11:  A busy first day.  We went through the course outline, spoke about Fire drills, and spent time recalling the Kinetic Molecular Theory.   Textbooks were acquired while a WS on the KMT was completed.  After getting our textbooks, we read through the safety rules and reviewed the operation of all the classroom safety equipment.  We read Section 1.1, where you were directed to construct a map of the classroom and surrounding hallway, and indicate the location of several items.  The 10 WHMIS Symbols were then sketched and labelled too.  We finished with some notes on Chemistry, then observing some samples and described their physical properties.  Due next class is your signed outline, the map, and WHMIS Symbols.

Chemistry 12:  We started with a short review of Redox reactions, and we used the table of standard reduction potentials to determine which spontaneous reactoin occurred in Part I of Lab 21D.   A mini review followed, as well as time for reading 5.3 and completing Unit 5 # 7-14.  We finished Lab 21D after this (Questions # 1-4 (skip 2c and 3c) and Follow up Questions 1-5). We finished off with a little review.

Chemistry 12:  After doing the Buffers Mini Review we spent time constructing the graph for Lab 20H Part I.  This was followed with an "All Topics" mini review, and notes on Oxides.  We watched this video on Coal Powered Electricity to learn about how polluting oxides are removed from the smoke made by burning coal.   The Acids and Bases unit review was given out, and will be due on Friday.

Career Life Connections.  Please sign up for a presentation on the posted schedule at the top of the stairs (by the library).  See me if you have any questions about your Capstone Presentation.  Mr. Gale will create a meeting for you on Teams and you will be notified by email (365 Outlook).   Completing a  rehearsal a few days before your meeting is encouraged as well, see Mr. Gale to plan a time to do this.
