Your Acid Base Unit Test is Monday.

We started off with a little review, followed by a lesson on Oxidation Number.  Read 5.2 and do the Oxidation Number WS.  Everyone was given a paper copy of their Take-home Final #1.  Use the Acids and Bases section for additional practice on the weekend, if you need to.  Otherwise, use the Take-Home Final as you wish to help you prepare for your final on November 13th.  Here is the answer key to Take Home Final #1.

Together we did Unit 4 # 70 odds.  Time was given for #69 evens and for Lab 20G.  In the second half we learned how to find the pH of a weak acid solution, and we read 4.14.  Due Thursday, along with # 69 evens, is # 74-79.

Tuesday, October 19

We started with Lab 20G, finishing the procedure for Parts I to IV.  Do all the Calculations for Parts I through IV, as well as Follow-up Questions # 1-5.  In the second half we took notes on Hydrolysis, we read 4.13, and # 69 (odd letters) and 71 was assigned.  The Unit 4 problems are due Wednesday, but not the lab.

Monday, October 19, 2020

Chemistry 12:  Today we started with a short of 4.11 with a special guest, Mr. Stevens.  We did lab 20G for most of the rest of the class:  Parts zero, I and II for sure.  Maybe part III too.  We finished with a minireview of # 25-30 in Unit 4.

CLC 12:  Last day for the BC Postsecondary Virtual Fair.  Find links for it on the Grad Home page on the RSS website (top tab Parents and Students).  Fill in the Questionnaire found here (or in Teams, or in Room 313), and add it to your new Grade 12 Portfolio in myBlueprint.ca.  See Mr. Gale if you are having trouble logging into myBlueprint.ca

Chemistry 12:  After a minireview of U4# 1-14, we took notes on Acid Base Equilibria in Water and did U4 # 25-30.  Time was given to finish Lab 20B and to prepare Lab 20G.  We finished the notes off in the second half and did  31-37, 47, and 48.

Chemistry 12:  We started off with our Solubility Test today.  Please log into myedbc to see your result.  Well done!  The second half was taken up by Lab 20B,  an activity that is meant to have you explore acid strength.  Due Thursday are all the Chapter 4 problems we have started so far:  #1-24 (but not 20).  We are currently in week 6 of this 10 week course.

Be sure to attend the BC Postsecondary Virtual Fair today or tomorrow after school.  See the Grad home page on the RSS website for links and instruction.  Call me on Teams if you are having troubles.

Chemistry 12:  We started off with a review of acids and bases so far, and then then we spent time completing Unit 4 # 1-14, which be due Thursday.  Practice tests were handed in, marked by Mr. Gale, and returned.  Please add up your score, so you have a rough idea about how tomorrow's test will go.  Seek assistance with challenges:). Click here for the MC answer key.  Time was also give for preparing Lab 20B.

In the second part, we took notes on Conjugate acid base pairs, and we learned the difference between strong and weak acids.  Click here for today's class notes.  Unit 4 # 15-19 and 21-24 were also assigned, and will be due Thursday.

The Solubility Test is tomorrow, Wednesday.

In the last few minutes, we went through the steps for registering for and attending the Albera Postsecondary Virtual Fair.  You need to attend this conference from 5:00 to 7:00, or you can attend the BC version tomorrow and/or Thursday.  Click here for links, times and information for both virtual fairs.  A short questionnaire for this event is required for your Career Life Connections Course.  Mr. Gale has paper copies or you can click this link.

Today we started with a mini-review of various Solubility Topics, followed by a short discussion about Hard water and soft water.  Read 3.9, then do the following problems from Hebdon: Unit 3 # 47, 51-53, 64-66.  The second half was spent on Lab 19B - all Questions, Follow-up Questions, and a Conclusion. Lab 19B is due Friday.

Tuesday, October 6th

We started off with a mini-review, then did Lab 19C, which is due Friday.  I checked Unit 3 # 40-50 and 29-33.  We finished off with a short discussion of KTrial, which is just like "Q" that we learned about in the Equilibrium Unit.  Due next class is Unit 3 # 56-63.

Monday, October 5th

Today the Solubility Lab was collected. We used the ideas of Solubility and Solubility Product to solve problems # 40 - 50 in Unit 3.  After, we learned about precipitation reactions, and did the Precipitation Reaction mini-Lab where we practiced writing the 3 equations associated with these reactions (Formula Equation, Complete Ionic Equation, Net Ionic Equation).  We also learned about separating mixtures, and in particular separating mixtures of ions.   Due next class is the Precipitation Reactions WS, Unit 3 # 29-33 and #40-50

Friday, October 2, 2020

Today we wrote the Equilibrium Test and had about 25 minutes to work on the Solubility Lab adn Unit 3 # 21,22, 24, and 18-20d.  In the second half, we did the Precipitation Reaction mini lab where we learned about the Formula Equation, the Complete Ionic Equation, and the Net Ionic Equation.  Read 3.4 to learn about these, and do # 25 if you were away for the lab.

Thursday, October 1, 2020

Quizzes were returned from Wednesday and a mini review of Keq-type problems was completed.  We completed the Solubility Lab and filled in a WS to show our data and calculate the Solubility of our salt, as well as the Ksp value for our salt.  Get data from your partner if you missed the lab and complete the Solubility Lab WS.

In the second half, we Read 3.3 and did # 21,22, 24 and 18-20d.  We spent a little time going over the Equilibrium Practice test.  The Unit 2 test is tomorrow, Friday.

Wednesday, September 30, 2020

We observed how ionic solutions can conduct, and molecular solutions cannot.  The conductivity decreases if the concentration of ions decreases.  We did the Concentration Ions WS, and everyone checked their answers with the key on the side counter.  We did the Equilibrium Practice Test, worked on our Solubility Lab, and finished with a Quiz on U2 # 47-56.
