Science 8:  Today we wrote the Chap 1 & 2 test after seeing the Vancouver Aquarium travelling presentation about aquatic ecosystems.  The Immune System Flippit is not due on Friday.

Science 10:  Today was all about Atomic Theory.  We read section 6.2 after taking notes.  We made a mini poster, showing a labelled model of an atom, the standard symbol, and a completed Table 1 from pg 156.   I will assign you a specific atom.  We also did pg 156, # 2-13.

 Junior Girls Volleyball Senior Girls Last Spike Friday and Saturday.  On Friday we play at 12:05 and 2:15 at BVE.  Be at RSS at 3:15 for the Team Skills and at 4:45 for our last Friday Match.
Next weekend we are travelling to Kelowna for Friday and Saturday.  We do not have access to the Activity Bus, so we are looking for 1 parent driver that can leave with us at 7:30 am for our first match at Kelowna Christian at 11:00.  Contact me if your parent can help us out.

Earth Science 11:  Today we spent more time learning about minerals.  We tested some for effervescence.  We watched a video showing different samples being described (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4E_Znw_8Qs) by a real geology instructor.  After reading pg 40 - 46, we did some form a writing the showed that you have an understanding that minerals are split into two broad categories:  silicates and non-silicates.  We finished with the first 15 min of documentary about earth composition.

Science 10:  Today I checked pg 152 # 1-5, 8-11, and 7(optional).  We did lab 6A, and the Discussion Questions can be found on a Worksheet.  We will mark both pg 152 and the Lab 6A discussion questions on Thursday.  You were also given an interim report today.

Earth Science 11:  Today I collected the Density Calculations activity from Friday.  We learned about the properties of minerals, going into more detail with Moh's hardness scale and a few other new properties.  We looked at 7 more minerals:  Feldspar, Garnet, Magnetite, Molybdenite, Hornblend, Hematite,  Calcite.  These minerals were observed and were added to the mineral table we started last week.

Science 8:  We marked the written response for the practice test today.  Then we made a flippit and read pg 100 - 105, filling in the flippit with brief notes.  Next day we will have a Chapter 1 & 2 test. The Practice Test is due Thursday, and will be collected.   The Flippit will be due on Friday.

Science 8:  Today we marked pg 89 # 1-4 and handed it in, and had a quiz on the Digestive System and the Heart.   We took notes on Blood, read pg 88 and 89, and did pg 95 # 1-5, 13, 18, which is due Friday.  We tested our Vital Capacity with a spirometer.  We finished with a few short documentaries on Blood products and on the Respiratory System.  We began a Vital Capacity Lab, and will finish this on Friday.

Science 10:  Our Biology unit test happened today, and we made a start on Chemistry by observing a few elements and writing down their names, Symbols, and several properties.  No work is due Friday.  The Biology Practice test was collected too.

Science 8: pg 89 # 1-4.  Quiz on the Digestive system and heart diagram on Thursday.

Science 10: Complete your practice test and spend some time reviewing the Biology we have learned so far.  Test on all topics on Thursday.

Earth Science 11:  Today filled in a 3 column table on Minerals (name, property, elements & uses).  A few of you need to write your ATmospheric science test.

Earth Science 11:  Today we handed in our practice test, then we wrote the Atmospheric Science test.

Science 8:  Today we marked pg 81 # 3-8, 15, 16 together and I collected it.  We did Lab 9B (Veins and Arteries) from a hand-out, and we learned the workings and anatomy of a human heart.  Only Lab 9B is due Tuesday.

Science 10:  Today we spent time learning about Natural Selection.  We read pg 236-240 from the old Bio 11 text, and we did a Worksheet on the Evolution of the Giraffe.  Click here to see the worksheet.  We also watched a TED-Ed video on Natural Selection - click here to see this video.

Junior Girls Volleyball:  See you at practice tomorrow.  Not sure if we are going to BVE, or staying here.  Thanks to all who helped with the Grade 8 Last Spike - what a terrific way to give back and say thanks to all the adults that work hard for you.

 


Science 8:  Read pg 75-78.  Make a placemat showing 1 or 2 important facts for each section.  pg 81 # 3-8, 15, 16 in sentences.

Science 10:  Fossil history of the Elephant lab, Procedure only.  Expect a biology test next week.

Earth Science 11:  Due Monday is the Atmospheric Science Practice Test.  We will have a test on Monday.

Junior Girls Volleyball:  Be at the school at 7:00 am for our Saturday trip to Armstrong.  We should be back by 5:00 pm.  Bring a lunch, snacks, both jerseys, and a water bottle.  No Monday morning serving practice, this has been changed to Wednesday.
