Science 9 P56: Today we did pg 125 # 2-6, 11, 16, 17 from the old Probe 10. This is the last of Ecology for us and there will be a Test on Tuesday. on any material past Sept 23rd. We spent some time reviewing with a partner verbally, practicing the techniques that were demonstrated by Nolan and your instructor. We also did the Ecology Practice Test, which is due Monday.

Chemistry 12: Unit 3 # 29-33, 81-85 and 62-65 are due Monday, along with the Mini-review WS of Solubility. Lab 19C should be done today, unless you have made special arrangements with me. The Unit 3 (Solubility) Test will be next week. A practice test will be available later this afternoon.
Science 9: Today we started with a short lesson on Pollutants and discussed biomagnification vs bioaccumulation. We read pg 120 to 124 in the old Probe 10 text, and we did pg 125 # 2-6. 11, 16-17 half in sentences, half in quality point form.
In the second half, we spent time completing the first draft of our Fiction novel writing assignment. We looked at a Scientific Paper to see how the Author formatted their work to make it easy to read, and we followed the same format.

Science 9: After a short session on Atmospheric Pollutants, we did research on our Joy of Reading papers. If you are starting to write you article today, keep these criteria in mind:
2 pages, double spaced, font 12 Times New Roman, 1 or 2 Figures (numbered, include a short caption), don't write with first person language (exclude I's, we's etc)
Be sure to include:
A short summary of the story
A description of the scientific ideas important to the story.
Your opinion on if the events of the story could actually happen.
Careers 8 Day 2:
Time Management Assignment: follow the instructions below:
1) Open your desktop Excel app. In Column A, make rows for each half hour of the day, starting at midnight. On row #1, create 1 column per day for 1 week, starting with Saturday.
2) Use the fill colour button, and make all of your required school hours blue. For this whole assignment, think of a typical week.
3) Repeat, making all of your sleeping hours yellow.
4) Repeat using a different colour for all the categories of time spent: Work, Soccer Practice, Church, etc. Leave "free time" white. School lunch hours are free time.
5) Insert a Textbox and within it create a key to explain your colour scheme.
6) State the total number of "free time" hours per week in your Textbox.
7) Save this with a useful/searchable file name to your "One Drive", Save a .pdf as well, and upload the .pdf into your My Files in myBlueprint.
8) Complete the tasks from October 28th.

We watched a short clip on managing your Digital Footprint well.
Day 1 Tasks for Careers 8
1. Navigate to myBlueprint.ca and create an account. The Activation Key is "Revelstoke". As this is your official high school myBlueprint account to be used until Grade 12, accurately type your name with proper capitalization.
2. In the left corner, click on Menu in the navigation and select Who Am I. Select the Learning Styles assessment, and complete it. Report your learning style to Mr. Gale when you are done.
3. In the left corner, click on Work and select Resumes. Click the button + Create Resume and create a Grade 8 Resume. Fill in as much as you can in the sections titled Contact Information, Education, and Hobbies and Interests. Write clearly and use appropriate capitalization and proper spelling. We will do other sections later.
4. In the Home left tab, click on Portfolios. Add a Portfolio and call it Grade 8 Portfolio. This is a place where you will store a collection of items that show your learning. Create an appropriate Avatar. Click "Add Box" and add both your Learning Styles and your Grade 8 Resume.
5. Navigate back to the Who Am I section, and do the Personality Survey. Add this to your Grade 8 Portfolio as well. See Mr. Gale if this is all done.
Science 9: Today we spent half of our class researching the scientific aspect found in our novel. Ask Mr. Gale if you are not sure about what to look up. Read, learn, and take a few key notes on a new Word Document with a useful title. Keep a list of sources on your word document too.
Keep in mind these questions:
What are the basic science principles involved?,
What is the likelihood of this story really occurring?
What would prevent these events from taking place? etc. Details about the Article you will be writing will come next class.
We also spent time reviewing biogeochemical cycles, brainstormed a little about pollutants, and watched a video on Coal Fired Electricity Production.

Chemistry 12: Today we did lab 19C, but it is not due. Be sure that last day's work is completed - Unit 3 # 46-52 and the Review of 3.1-3.7 WS.
Science 9: After a brief tour of the continents and oceans, we discussed the Phosphorus Cycle.
Check out Video 1 and Video 2 of fungi, a variety of which are important to uptake of Phosphates from soil by plants. Then we read about the 8 Biomes listed in the old Probe 10, and on our papers we recorded the rainfall, major plant species, 1 or 2 facts, and if you have visited this biome before. Read your Joy of Reading novel by Monday!
