Chemistry 11:  After completing the Intro Unit Test we completed Lab 2E, which is partly due on Tuesday.  For Tuesday have all of the Calculation and Follow-up Questions finished.  I will give you 20 minutes for a conclusion.

Science 8:  Lab 1-9 Procedure steps 1-6 were competed.  We spent time on pg 63 # 1,3-10 (in sentences) but only up to # 6 is due Tuesday.  We created a Vital Capacity Inquiry lab report and shared the data we measured from Wednesday (VC in mL and height in cm).  A short demo showed the technique for graphing in science, and on Tuesday in class we will all draw a graph of VC vs Height.

Chemistry 12:  Today we wrote the reaction Kinetics Unit Test, and we spent a little time on Unit 2 # 1-13 (due Wed).   Click here to see the key to the "Extra Rates Problems" optional problem set.  Click here to see the key to the Rates Unit Practice Test.  Click here to see the key to Review of 1.7 & 1.8.  Click here to see the key to the Rates of Reaction with Stoichiometry WS.

Chemistry:  Today we completed the procedure for Lab 2E and we did the practice test.  On Friday we will do our Intro Unit Test.  Lab 2E will be due on Tuesday.

Chemistry 12:  Unit 1 Test on Friday.  We spent the first half completing the practice test (required) and a few optional review assigments to fine tune our skills.  Chapter 2 was started as well - wrote some brief notes on the characteristics of equilibria, then we started Unit 2 # 1-13 which is due on Tuesday.

Science 8:  Due next class is pg 49 # 1-5 in sentences.  We learned how to operate bunsen burners today, and we used our skills to create simple syrup for lab 1-9.  In the second half we reviewed the respiratory system and measured everyone's height and vital capacity.   We finished off with this Ameoba Sisters clip about the respiratory system.

Chemistry 12:  After a short review of mechanisms we watched this clip about Catalytic Converters.  We completed the third column in the notes titled Factors Affecting Rates of Reaction, then we started the practice test.  We will have a Unit 1 Test (Rates of Reaction) Friday.  Click here to see the Assignment Log.

Chemistry 11:  We did a mini review of ionic names and formulas, then we discussed how the rules for Covalent Compounds are different.   We read pgs 73 to 74 then did Unit 4 # 8,9, and 66-71 as well as 135-140.   The Intro Unit Practice Test was handed out too.  Our first unit test will be Friday.  Click here to see the Assignment Log.

Science 8:  After a review of cellular respiration, we wrote notes on Materials Entering and Leaving the Cell.  We read pages 42-45, then we started pg 49 # 1-5 in sentences, but this is not due Wednesday.  In the final minutes, we started Lab 2-9 by placing a chicken egg into a vinegar bath to dissolve the shell.  Click here to see the Assignment Log.

Science 8:  We wrote the 3 characteristics of a system down on our Human Body Systems Placemat after we reviewed the names and functions of a few systems.   We learned the meaning of dilute, concentrated, and diffusion before reading pages 40 - 42.   This animation shows how diffusion works.   In the second half we did a short experiment to answer the question of whether diffusion happens faster in hot water than in cold water.  We wrote the question, a hypothesis, our prediction (based on our procedure), and data and observations.  Nothing is due for next class.

Chemistry 11:  I collected Lab 3A today at the start.  We reviewed naming and writing formulas for ionic compounds. We learned about hydrates for the first time today.  Due Tuesday is Unit 4 # 5 (a-l), 6, and 7.  We prepared lab 2E today.  Our first unit test will be on Friday.

Chemistry 12:  We reviewed a few topics to start, then we wrote notes on Reaction Mechanisms.  We read section 1.10, 1,11, and 1.12 today.  Due Tuesday is Unit 1 # 54-62.  The work from Friday was not collected (Unit 1 # 46-52) yet.

Chemistry 11: We did the Density Mini review to start, then we wrote notes on the Particles that make up matter.  We went through the Matter Samples page and determined if they were made of atoms, molecules, ions or a combination of these.  In the second half we did Lab 3A

September 20, 2023

Chemistry 12:  We wrote notes on Collision Theory, and we completed Unit 1 # 29-45 (skip 33) after we read sections 1.7 and 1.8.  Reaction Mechanisms were introduced, and we did the Mechanism Mini Review WS.  Due Monday are Unit 1 # 29-54 and the WS titled "Rates Calculations involving Stoichiometry".  We finished off with a quiz on sections 1.1 to 1.6.

Science 8:  After writing notes on Energy, we read section 18.1 from the old Science Probe 9 and we did # 1-3 on the Energy WS.  In the second half we viewed Williamson's Lake water to see exampes of protists (single celled organisms).  Most of us were able to see some zooplankton (animal-like) and phytoplankton (plant like).  Only the Energy WS # 1-3 is due Friday.

Tuesday, September 19, 2023

Chemistry 12:  We started the WS titled Rates of Reaction with Stoichiometry, and this will be due on Friday.

Chemistry 11:  We went over the Measurement and Sig Fig WS, then did Unit 2 # 48-50.  Time was given to complete the Density Lab, then we did a quiz on Significant Figures and measurement.  At the end we looked at the Program Guide for Kings University, as an example to see what information is shown on this list.  Although we don't have a business program at RSS, business is a common field of study and can provide skills that lead to work opportunities and good wages.

Science 8:  Pg 39 # 3-13 was reviewed but was not collected.  We wrote notes on Mitochondria, then we looked up the 10 forms of energy and wrote them on our Mitochondria notes.
