Science 8:  Today we learned about the Circulatory System after a practice quiz on the respiratory system.   We read pages 82 - 89, then completed pg 91 # 2-13, 18.   We also started a categorization activity that allowed us to explore numerous branches of Science,   Click here to see the Gr 8 assignment log.

Chemistry 12:    We completed the Rates of Reaction Unit Test today, then spent time finishing Unit 2 # 1-13.  We prepared Lab 19B in the  usual way, and we spent time studying the flow chart in the lab's procedure.  Click here to see the Ch 12 assignment log.

Scholarship Information for Grade 12s and their Parents/Guardians.  Grade 12s and their families would benefit from spending a little time exploring scholarship opportunities for post secondary training.  The RSS website has links to scholarship databases including ScholarshipsCanada.com and Studentsscholarship.org, and you will also find information about an assortment of opportunities that are advertized to our school.   These are posted by Mr. Wilson as we receive them.  Also,  Grade 12s can ask their parents or caregivers if any scholarship opportunities are available through their employment, or involvement with clubs or other organizations.  The Post-Secondary institutions that you are applying to may also have scholarships and bursaries available - be sure to spend time reading all the posted information on webpages you visit and review all the contents of emails that are sent to you by those institutions.

In early February, Grade 12s will meet with Mr. Gale to learn about how to apply for "Local Scholarships".   Local Scholarships are those that are given out by community members and organizations specifically for graduates of RSS.  If you have ever been to an RSS Graduation Ceremony you will have seen these scholarships being announced.    You can review the application process on the Local Scholarship page of the RSS website where last year's information is still posted - this year the task will be largely the same.  Please do not start applying for Local Scholarships yet - wait until our February meeting and ensure that all the information is current for your year of graduation.

Science 8:  We reviewed the respiratory system, then we did a practice quiz on respiratory system anatomy.  Everyone wrote down the Vital Capacity and height data from Monday, and we made our first graph to see if Mr. Gale's hypothesis is supported by our data or not.  "Vital Capacity is related to height - taller people have more lung volume".  Click here to see the assignment log.

Chemistry 12:  We wrote brief notes on Dynamic Equilibrium after looking at a reversible reaction.  We began Unit 2 # 1-13 while the Rates of Reaction Practice Test was being marked.  Next day we will do the Rates of Reaction Test.  Click here to see the key.  You can use your databooklet with its helpful hints for this first unit test - for subsequent ones you will use a fresh data booklet for tests.   Do not spend time on the Unit 2 problems.  Click here to see the assignment log.

Chemistry 11:  We took brief notes on "The Mole" once the Intro Unit Practice Tests were handed in.  We read the beginning of Chapter 5 in Hebdon, and completed Unit 5 # 6 & 7 (any 8 total) 8 & 9 (any 8 total), and 10.  These are not due Thursday - spend time preparing for your Intro Unit Test on Thursday instead.   Ensure that your databooklet has helpful notes written on it - you can use your databooklet during your unit test.  Click here to see the assignment log.

Monday, September 23rd.

Chemistry 11:  After a short review of writing ionic names and formulas, we completed the Intro Unit Practice Test.  We will have a test on Thursday on everything we have accomplished so far.  The Practice Test is due on Tuesday.  We finished with a quiz on nomenclature.  Click here to see the  Ch 11 assignment log.

Science 8:  We discussed the respiratory system, and sketched a diagram showing the gas exchange going on in alveoli.  We read pages 90 to 92, then completed pg 91 # 1-5 in fine sentences (include one or two labelled figures. ). Click here to see the Gr 8 assignment log.

Chemistry 12:   Time was given to complete the Unit 1 Practice Test, which is due on Tuesday.  Test on Wednesday.  In the last few minutes we completed a quiz on Rates topics.  Click here to see the Ch 12 assignment log.

Science 8:  We went through pg 49 # 1-4,  12, then we reviewed the digestive system.  This video on the Digestive System has a little more info that we need, but it is very well done.  We created a lab sheet where we could sketch examples of phytoplankton, zooplankton, and aquatic invertebrates.  We spent the last 30 minutes viewing Williamson's lake pond water to find, then sketch these creatures.  No homework for Monday.  Click here to see the assignment log.

Chemistry 11: We learned about hydrates today.  We read pages 65 - 72, then we did problems # 1,2,3,7 and 8 in Unit 4.  These are due Monday, along with Lab 2D (no conclusion).  Click here to see the assignment log.

Chemistry 12:  We reviewed mechanisms to start, then watched this clip on Catalytic converters.  We added # 62 and 63 to last day's assignment, and some even started the Rates of Reaction practice test.  The Unit 1 test will be on Wednesday.  Click here to see the assignment log.

Graded 8 Boys Volleyball:  We will leave RSS at 1:00 pm on Monday, to drive to Lumby by Activity Bus.  All your fees and forms must be turned in for you to be able to go.  Ask your teacher to be dismissed at 12:55 pm.  Bring food and drink on the bus with you.  We will stop at Save-On Foods in Vernon on the way to Lumby, but I don't plan on making stops on the return trip.n  Remember to bring your playing shorts, knee pads, court shoes, and a water bottle.  Click here to see the official league schedule.
