Science 8:  We began with a review of density, then we read pgs 260 and 261.  We competed the "What to do" section of activity 7-6 on page 262, writing in quality sentences.  In the second half we created a heating curve for a mystery substance (Temperature vs Time graph), which allowed us to determine the melting point and boiling point.  From this we could determine if the substance was water, wax, sulfur, nitrogen, or lead.  In the last few moments we spoke about the proper way to welcome a TOC into our classroom because Mr. Gale will be away on Friday.  Both the heating curve graph and pg 262 # 1-6 are due Friday and will be collected.

Tuesday Sept 20, 2022

Chemistry 12:  Today we took notes on Collisions, read section 1.7 and 1.8, and completed # 28 - 40 (due on Thursday).  Lab 18C is also due Thursday.  Our first Unit Test, on Chapter 1 in Hebdon, will be on Tuesday.

Chemistry 11:  We spent the day completing Lab 3A, which is due on Thursday (Qs and Calcs # 1,4; Follow up Questions 2,3;  a find Conclusion).

Science 8:  Today we took notes on Density, and we determined the density of both canola oil and tap water.  No homework for tomorrow.

Chemistry 11:  Today we began with the Density Lab,  and we reviewed the requirements for a well written lab report.  The lab was collected, but if you needed one day to tidy it up I will take it on Tuesday.  We did a worksheet to practice measurement and significant Figure skills, then we prepared Lab 3A for Tuesday.  The last part of the day was spent discussing the Alberta Post Secondary Fair, which is taking place Tuesday morning.

Chemistry 12:  We looked at the Rates of Reaction animation on the PHeT website to have a discussion about energy.  After taking notes on Enthalpy, we read section 1.6 and completed Unit 1 # 23-28.  Time was given for Lab 18C (all Questions and Calculations, Follow-up Questions, and a Conclusion), which is due Thursday.

Science 8: Today we drew a line graph of our data from Lab 4-7.  Mr. Kenyon and Ms. Wallach came by to remind us of the importance of kindness with your classmates, both in-person and on-line.  At the end, I collected pg 251 # 1-4 and 253 # 1-4 from Thursday.

Thursday, September 15, 2022

Science 8:  We began with a review of the meaning of Science and we went through a few different branches of Science.  We watched this Career Trek video about being a Geologist.  We took notes on Changes of State, and read pgs 250 - 253.   pg 251 # 1-4 and pg 253 # 1-4 are due Friday.  We also did Lab 7-4, but this is not due Friday.

Wednesday, September 14, 2022

Chemistry 12:  We did Lab 18 C today, and Questions and Calculations # 1 is due or Friday (one graph with 5 curves).  Time will be given to complete the rest of the lab on Friday, and it will be due Tuesday without a conclusion.  We finished with a practice quiz on rates topics.

Chemistry 11:  Today we started with a short review, then we completed the Atoms and Molecules WS.  Notes on Significant Figures followed.  We read pgs 34 - 40 in Hebdon, and completed # 56 - 58.  In the second half, we did the Density Lab.

Tuesday, September 13, 2022

Chemistry 11:  We finished off the notes on Categories of Matter and filled in the 3rd column on the "Properties of Matter" WS.  We learned about measurement in Science, and completed the Intro to Measurement WS as well as pg 33 # 49 and 50.

Science 8:  Today we reviewed the Kinetic Molecular Theory, then you handed in pg 249 # 1-5.  We discussed what Science is (both a body of knowledge, and a way to answer questions), and we talked about what scientists do.  We swent the last 30 minutes researching the names of branches of science (Geology, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Pharmacology, Botany, Astronomy, Ecology)

Chemistry 12:  A key was used to check your responses for the Rates of Reaction Minireview.  We discussed Collision Theory and added to the notes from Monday.  For tomorrow, read sectoins 1.4 and 1.5 and complete # 18-22.  Also, complete the Rates Minireview #2.  Prepare Lab 18C for Wednesday morning.

Monday, September 12, 2022

Chemistry 11:  We started by going over the Safety Review quiz from Friday and handing in Unit 3 # 1-3, 5, 13-15.  We viewed samples of matter, noting their physical properties in a table titled Properties of Matter.  We finished by starting notes on the Categories of Matter.

Science 8:  We read pgs 246 to 249 and answered Questions 1-5 on page 249 in sentences.  For any work you do, always create a nice "Header" at the top with your name and last initial, the date, and a descriptive title.

Chemistry 12:  We took notes on Factors that Affect Rate of Reaction.  After reading section 3.1, we did Unit 1 # 10-17.  We also started a worksheet

Friday, September 9, 2022

Chemistry 12:  We took notes on introductory topics concerning rates of Reaction.  We read sections 1.1 and 1.2 from Hebdon, and exercises # 1-9 are due Monday.  Lab 7 is also due Monday.

Science 8: Today we measured mass with triple beam balances.  No homework is due Monday.

Chemistry 11: Safety Quiz and Unit 3 # 1-3, 5, 13-15 all due Monday

Senior Girls Volleyball:  Practice Friday from 3:30 to 5:15 and Sunday 7:00 to 8:45
