Chemistry 12:  To begin we reviewed mechanisms by looking at the destruction of ozone by chlorine radicals that was happening in the 80s and 90s.  Good thing for governments that make rules - we no longer worry about ozone depletion because the harmful chemicals, CFCs, have been largely discontinued.  This video showed how Catalytic Converters use Pt and Pd catalysts to clean up exhaust gases in gasoline vehicles.  Another example of governments making rules to change the practice of manufactures.  We wrote brief notes on Dynamic Equilibrium, then we read sections 2.1 and 2.2.  We completed Unit 2 # 1-13.  If there was time, Lab 19B can be prepared.  Next class we will have a test on Rates of Reaction (Unit 1).  Click here to see the Ch12 assignment log

Science 8:  We started by looking at video of Lab 10-3, showing steps 9 and 10.  We learned about what is inside an atom, and a little about how electrons and protons were discovered.  After writing brief notes on Atomic Structure, we did page 208 #2, 5-7 and page 212 # 5 & 10 - these are from a handout.   In the second half we learned about frequency (calculated by dividing the number of cycles by the number of seconds).  We determined the frequency of steps in Usain Bolt's world record 100 m race in Berlin n 2009.  We practiced a few more problems, then made a pendulum and determined the frequency.  Chemistry test on Tuesday.   Click here to see the Sci8 assignment log.

Science 10: After a short review we completed the Precipitations Mini-Lab and Worksheet.    We spent a little time working on the Chemistry Unit Practice Test and checking the answers with the posted answer key.  On Monday we will have a test on all we have learned so far this semester.  In the final 40 minutes we wrote brief notes on Energy, then read pages 198 - 205 in our textbook.  We worked on the Energy WS.  Click here to see the Sci10 assignment log.
